A branch to turn on the light

a branch to turn on the light embodies the playfulness of Fernan’s practice. Inspired by his own use of a yardstick to flip a difficult-to-reach light switch in his studio space, Fernan creates a nearly surrealist—or simply humorous—scene in which a tree branch facilitates this switch. The crop of the painting positions the branch such that it appears anthropomorphized, acting to its own accord.
